New Victim Of Heart Disease Dick Cheney Suffered ‘Mild Heart Attack’
The Republican, who has a long history of heart problems, was said to be “resting comfortably” at George Washington University Hospital in the capital.
The 69-year-old received an angiogram test so doctors could examine his coronary arteries, according to NBC News.
The results showed he may need more treatment, the report said.
“We don’t know what the plan is,” one physician told NBC.
Mr Cheney’s office said in a statement: “His doctors are evaluating the situation and he is resting comfortably.”
The former vice president has had four heart attacks since 1978 and had a pacemaker fitted in 2001….
He also underwent quadruple bypass surgery in 1988, as well as two later angioplasties to clear narrowed arteries.
Mr Cheney’s fourth and most recent heart attack was in 2000, the year in which he and George Bush were elected to the White House.
He is due to meet his former boss in the coming days for the first time since they left office in January 2009.
The former vice president has kept a high profile since leaving the White House.
He has sparred with the Obama administration over plans to close Guantanamo Bay and made a surprise appearance last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference.
Accompanied by his daughter Liz he was greeted with chants of “Run, Dick, Run,” but said: “I am not going to do it.”
Sky’s US political commentator Jon-Christopher Bua said: “It seems that vice president Cheney has been making a real effort to ‘set the record straight’ on several issues to secure his legacy and his place on history.
“All this may have to take a back seat as his serious health concerns now become the main focus for himself, his family and his fellow citizens.”
